Spray Nozzles Reduce Obnoxious Odors from Sewage Treatment Plant
Sewage Plant Responds to Complaints from Homeowners
PROBLEM: As land becomes scarce in the Chicago area, new housing developments have moved closer to less desirable locations, including a large sewage treatment plant. Homeowners' complaints were frequent; especially during a good westward wind.
The sewage plant could have ignored the problem, casting blame on the homeowners and developers for building too close to their plant. But, being a good corporate citizen, they looked for a solution to the problem.
SOLUTION: Spraying Systems Co. recommend installing air atomizing nozzles to deodorize the air. Two banks of misting head nozzles were installed directly over the two 80 x 100 foot tanks. The nozzles are turned on manually whenever neighbors call or there's a strong westward wind. A deodorizer is sprayed through the series of 32 Model 11005-¼J-SS air atomizing nozzles, freshening the air.
The spring loaded clean out needle allows for easy nozzle clean out. Manually pushing the back of the nozzle assembly forces the needle through the orifice for easy cleaning. Since excessive build up of the deodorizer could cause the nozzle to clog, the clean out feature was important to the sewage plant.
The system was installed with an air line header on top and the deodorizer in the bottom line. A separate air pressure regulator and liquid pressure control regulates the amount of air and liquid into the line.
The system normally operates at 38 psi of air pressure and 30 psi of liquid pressure.
